First Anniversary and our Celebration

An anniversary is an opportunity for you to celebrate the previous year that you have shared with your partner. You can look back over the ups and downs over the previous year - although hopefully there will have been more ups - and you can look forward to the upcoming year that you will be spending together. If you are just heading into a first anniversary with your partner, consider these tips on how to really celebrate it properly.

Mother Day in our Life.

We can all say a big thank you to our mums on mother's day. Over the years I have sent many bouquets to my mother. Did you know that this special anniversary has been officially recognised since May 10th 1908. The woman who had this day dedicated to her was known as Anne Jarvis. Anne was born in 1832 in Virginia, USA. Married at 20 it is believed that she had as many as 12 children, most of whom did not live into adulthood. Diseases such as, diphtheria, scarlet fever and whooping cough claimed the lives of most of her children.

Who Is John Heisman

Prior to serving as director of the Downtown Athletic Club, John Heisman had been a legendary college football player for Brown University and University of Pennsylvania, then a college football coach for thirty-six years, from 1892-1927, for Auburn University, Clemson University, Georgia Tech University, Washington & Jefferson College, and Rice University.
As a student at Brown University and University of Pennsylvania, Heisman had played football in its earliest versions - a variation of rugby and what is considered as football today - as a guard, center, tackle, and end. As a coach, he would later play a major role in innovating and advancing the game of football and its rules, but his own time as a player was cut short after nearly being struck by lightning, which damaged his eyesight. In 1982,

Sir Donald Bradman And Cricket

If one measures the standard deviations that a sportsman is above the mean for their sport, there is an argument that Sir Donald Bradman is the greatest of all time. He certainly ranks as the greatest cricketer of them all.
Legend has it that Sir Donald developed his phenomenal eye by throwing a golf ball at a water tank and hitting the rebounds with a wicket.
Bradman's batting average was so high (99.94) that even the greatest batsman of this century, Sachin Tendulkar, can only manage an average slightly higher than half of this.

2012 And Olympic Club

-- As the world's finest golfers converge on Bethesda, Md., for this week's U.S. Open, their thoughts are filled with conquering Congressional Country Club's Blue Course. It's a monster, the second-longest track in Open history, and it will challenge players in myriad ways.
Once a winner hoists the sparkling silver trophy in the smothering heat of June outside our nation's capital, something quiet and notable will happen in the USGA's universe: San Francisco will move to the front of the line.
That's evident in the maintenance crew's break room at the Olympic Club. There, about a month ago, club officials put up a countdown clock - showing the days, hours and minutes until the first shot of the 2012 U.S. Open. Today, the clock reaches 368 days.

What is RSS?

RSS came into the market quite a number of years back though it did not receive the recognition it deserves. However, with each passing day, RSS technology is becoming increasingly common among the webmasters. RSS stands for Rich Site Summary. Others refer to RSS as Real Simple Syndication. With this technology in place, the publishers and the webmasters are able to reach out to prospective clients with the use of informative summaries. The approach entails providing regular news updates to the subscribers. The beauty about this approach is that the publisher has total control of the content provided while on the other hand the end user gets to select what topics interests him or her.

Tools For Marketing and Social Media of wrold

The absolutely most effective social media tools for marketing are Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, and MySpace. How should a marketer go about using these tools? It may seem obvious, but a marketer must connect with very many people to be effective. Notice I said "people", not companies or product fan pages. You have to have procedures in place to sift and sort out other marketers to focus in on real everyday people who will be receptive to your product.
You do not have to exclude all marketers from your social media connection but be wary of profiles that exist only for marketing purposes.

Our life day with out computer

It's not too long ago that computers were a real luxury, many didn't have one - and those who did got only one - and so they were viewed as some awesome model of tomorrow. Eventually, using computers, we will have the capacity to do... well, the possibilities were limitless. And also a bunch of the forecasts have already come true, specially the manner in which computers have linked up the planet via the Internet. Now it is difficult for many of us to visualize what the world would be like with no computer.

We have friendship day which is being celebrated on the first Sunday of August once a year. You will need apps for your new Verizon Apple iPhone and there are hundreds of thousands to choose from; around 300,000 at a guess with more coming to the market daily. Verizon are keen to market their own VCast Rhapsody app for music and charge you for it, but of course there are other ways to listen to music of your choice via your iPhone.
Some of the most popular apps are, of course, Netflix and the Angry Birds game, but when you are tired of these you may want to download Dropbox.

Royal Wedding William & Kate Middleton

William and Kate Middleton are to be married on 29th of this month. Will this marriage last till death do them part? Admittedly, it is an unfair question but one would fear such a possibility because of the recent history of many failures in the British royal family. Therefore one has to take some precautions to avoid any kind of mishap.
The young couple must enter into this alliance with total determination and commitment of "living together." Pronouncing a promise such as this in God's presence in the church has become a meaningless verbiage. Nobody seems to stick to it nor even remember it after three days.

Beautiful Harrods & its History

Harrods is one of the world's most famous and largest department stores. The store located in Brompton Road in Knightsbridge attracts an astonishing 15 million visitors every single year. It sells luxury and normal everyday items which are spread across a whopping 90,000 square feet. In May of 2010 its then owner Mohammed Al Fayed sold the store for a cool £1.5bn to the Qatari royal family.
Originally the store was established in 1849 by Charles Henry Harrod, which is where the name comes from. It started off in a single room and employed just two assistants and a messenger boy.

Colleges ,Universities & Drinking We stop it.

Dartmouth College, along with thirteen other colleges and universities, are joining forces to decrease the number of college students engaging in binge drinking. The project was initiated by Darthmouth's President, Jim Yong Kim, who intends to utilize the same business model he once used to treat tuberculosis in Peru. The project will consist of teams from each campus coming together about every six months to share their experiences with each other about what works and what doesn't work to curb binge drinking among college students.

Web Designing Trends and 2011

Since we are almost three months into the year I decided it was time to give my take on what may happen in web design in 2011. (At least I thought I should probably write it before the year was over. )
So, over the past several weeks I have read a number of my favourite web design magazines, web design blogs and articles and viewed a number of cutting edge websites, particularly outside of North America, so that I could share some thoughts about what appears to be some of the major trends in website design for 2011. There is nothing scientific contained here just some observations.
1. Less Use of Flash It is not the fact that Flash is not a great technology...(when used appropriately it is)...but in the past year or so it has been over used, misused, abused to the point that it has developed a bad reputation. Certainly, the ongoing shenanigans between Adobe (creator of Flash) and Apple (iPhone and iPad) are not helping the situation.

What is the mean of VPN and its work.

The initials VPN stand for the term Virtual Private Network. The aim and simple concept of a Virtual Private Network is that it provides users with the ability to access a private network (and therefore individual computers and servers on a private network) from a remote unsecured point outside of that network, without compromising the security of the private network itself.
In effect a VPN creates a tunnel through unsecured networks, which clients can use to access their private network without interference from the rest of the unsecured networks. As VPNs therefore have to transmit private information across unsecured networks such as the world wide web, they need to ensure that the data exchanged across these networks is kept secure by employing a combination of encryption on the data packets and authentication to allow access to only those users with permission.
Using these secure data packets VPN services can therefore be used to transmit any kind of data, including voice, media such as video and conventional data. They are also available from any kind of connection including 3G and DSL meaning that VPNs can be established from any device with a connection to the internet.

What is love.....?

LOVE

One of the most said words and most difficult to define is love. Many times love has been mistaken for infatuation or lust. Can we really create a definition for love or does our ability to understand what love is lie in illustrations and examples. What is the meaning of love?
To better understand what love is, it is important to look at its usage in different contexts. You have heard of men who tell ladies they love them and all they end up doing is to break their hearts. You've also heard of relationships or marriages where one partner falls from his or her rich status to a poor one due to a certain calamity, and the other partner divorces him or her. Obviously, they had 'fallen in love' before getting married to each other. And you have heard of marriages in which the partners seek each other's welfare unselfishly no matter the calamities that befall them.
These are three scenarios that will help us better understand what love really is and help us differentiate love from infatuation and lust. Looking at the circumstances through which the partners in the three scenarios came together, we can deduce that each couple "fell in love" with each other, but we can also observe a difference in how each of the abandoning partners in the first two scenarios and the faithful partners in the third scenario define love.

Our loveable relation Engagement and choose right and beautiful Ring.

Choosing an engagement ring is an extremely significant decision in a relationship. It marks the next step in a marriage. Hence, first and foremost try estimating your budget and the quality of the engagement ring that you want for your beloved. Note that 'bigger' is not necessarily the better. Factors such as tradition, price range, lifestyle and individual taste count immensely while choosing a ring.
Be careful about the metal that you choose
A beautiful and dazzling engagement ring can not only act as a symbol of union, but also brings in a spark, both literally and metaphorically. If you are trying to go for something softer yet malleable, it is best that you go for a gold engagement ring. It mixes with various metals of different colors. It is less costly than a platinum ring. Gold is much easier to scratch or tarnish as compared to other metals.

Our good way of time wasteing and online dating.

The first man who took an interest in me went by the name of Ryan, according to his profile. A self-declared skiing fanatic, he had maintained a profile online for two years. I sent him joking emails for a few weeks until he asked for my number. When I emailed it to him, I asked that he call me at a certain time. He emailed me with a message that he might call me, if it were convenient, after his volunteer shift as a first aid attendant and patroller on the weekend. A red flag went up for me at that moment. A man who has a busy life, full with two jobs, skiing and volunteer work, is unavailable and uninterested. I am not a shoe-in for these types.
Of course, he never called. I forgot about him, but he somehow found me twice, in a crowd, and made fun of me for contacting him online. Once, he bothered me downtown by a local pub, where he sat on the patio with some friends and a pitcher of beer. The second time, I left the mall with a few purchases. He showed up with the same blonde again, who wore a tank top and light jeans in cold weather, without a jacket, shoes, gloves or a scarf.

Anderstanding man nature and love.

It is important that women understand a man's love language; so I decided to share some information to assist us ladies in getting some understanding about the bro's. Now mind you I am in no way an expert although I do get asked a lot of relationship/marriage questions. I'm also aware that there are many books and theories on "how to get a man" "how to understand a man" and the list goes on. Sis, I will say this some of the information is healthy but to truly "tap" into a man that must come through your relationship with god first and foremost. See god knows that man's mind, his make-up and his frame and more importantly his spiritual design; and the only true way to have access to this information is through prayer. Too often we want to take the short cuts, i.E. We refuse to be patient and love; then when our relationship/marriage "blows" up then we begin to seek god's face. Let's all learn to approach god first. With that being said let's delve into some information to assist us in "learning that man".
Gary chapman wrote a book called "the five love languages" which I highly recommend. There are five languages and the premise is to address the language of your partner which might not be the same as yours. This is why sometimes when you do something for the other person, there just might be little or total lack of response; i.E. That person's love language is different from what you are portraying to them; and we all have a need to have our love tanks full to continue a loving path. Of course god requires us to love unconditionally, but having a full love tank allows us to continue to express love to the one we love.
The five languages are:
1. Words of affirmation
2. Quality time
3. Receiving gifts
4. Acts of service
5. Physical touch
within the book there is a short test to teach you what your particular language is; and most of us have a primary and secondary language. I suggest you read the book along with your partner to access some vital information about yourselves. Now mind you if you can not get the other person to read, then the next suggestion is to watch them and pray and ask god for assistance.
Now onto the meatier information...Ladies...We must all understand the next segment! Sis, please be aware that all men have a god-given assignment. As a male friend of mine states, "a man will go after his vision and call regardless if he's single, broke, blind or deaf and a woman can only add or subtract from it." Ultimately it is their choice (the man) to pursue his assignment or not. God created each of us to fulfill mandates for his kingdom. We seem to be close to him as children because children easily hear the voice of god. This is why the scriptures reprimand anyone who chooses to block children from approaching Christ. We are all his "dear children" and should allow our hearts to be easily entreated. However, the problem becomes apparent that as we grow we grow away from him and must decide...On how we live our lives - either for him or for the enemy.
Women were designed to be help meets and can either choose to show strength and assist the man in reaching the full potential of his assignment or be enablers to his choice to live sinfully. Loving him through god is done by having a relationship with god himself. God will show you how to love him. All men have a need to be affirmed regardless of their love language and often look to women for approval; this was god's design. This is why after he does something wonderful and you heartily thank him, you might discover him doing additional things just so he can elicit a thank you and or love from you...Sis...It builds him up! Let me repeat that...It builds a man up when you affirm him! On the other hand for some men if you have a weakness, they might choose to exploit that weakness rather than help you grow. It is a man's job to cover a woman, but many choose weak women to exploit or choose them because they choose not to live up to their potential. Way too many women do not understand that often you are the very ones that can push the man to greatness or weakness based on your behavior. To love a man properly you must have a relationship with god and must choose god...Love is patient, kind...Seeks not its own...The power resides in the one choosing to love...Not the one receiving the love. For god so loved the world he gave.
Far too often when women do not see what they expect out of a relationship they began to tear at the fibers of that same relationship. When they hurt, rather than forgive they strike out and make accusations. They don't understand that often the man can not read their mind and rather than stand in prayer for that same said man they go on the attack and wreak havoc on their own relationship. Alleviation of the negative accusations never crosses their mind...They choose rather to hold onto the grudges and nag. Nagging never changes a situation or behavior. See most men will continue the same behavior until they realize they might experience loss or being uncomfortable on their part - that motivates them to change. But that change either comes from their own desire to do god's will or their help meet assisting them through love and prayer.
Let me repeat this...Sis..You can not change a man only god can!
Lord we ask that you give us increase of wisdom and knowledge in dealing with the men in our lives. Many are hurting through their own varied particular struggles in their lives. Far too often the women put additional pressure on the man not understanding that the very methods they use assist in making that man shut down and move away from the women. God we all need your help, we all need to forgive one another for we are all flawed in some way and none of us are perfect; but give us a desire towards you that we might learn to work out our differences...Teach us how to lay before you and labor for one another in prayer. In Jesus name we ask all of this and more in each of our lives. Amen!
My prayer is you will accomplish all that god intends for you to do in him.
Go in peace and I speak peace and blessings into your life.

Thanks.

How to fine friend and Love able citizen.

We all want to stay young forever, face it, we all do, and when we are young and vibrant we probably do think that will be the case. Young people never stop to think that all of this youth will be gone far sooner than expected and they go through life never realizing that things will quickly change and there is no way to stop it. Eventually our physical as well as our mental capabilities are going to lessen and we may be sitting in front of the mirror one day and not even recognize the person we've become. It's the stark reality staring back at us that has us finally understand that the years have caught up to us and there's no turning back.
Seniors may find themselves no longer able to do the things they did before, they may find themselves alone because their spouse has passed away. This can lead to fear, loneliness and isolation. If you know of a senior who might be alone and home bound, why not considering giving a helping hand and becoming a friend to someone that will truly appreciate even the slightest smile that will give them comfort.
Get to know the person that you want to help if they are not a family member. If they are a family member then you've already shared parts of your lives together and use that to be able to sit down with them and reminisce about things. If it's a person like a neighbor you are befriending then sit down with them and ask them to talk about things from their past, the present and their future. Let them express their fears, listen and let them know you care. This will give you a chance to bond with them.
You should also sit down with them and figure out what their needs are. Do they need help going to the doctor appointments, do they need groceries or can you help them clean up around the house? While you are visiting with them be alert and visually figure out what kind of help you think that you might be able to offer them.
At all times, remember to treat them with respect. Understand that most seniors are going to be far too proud to even consider asking for help and this is why so many of them go without. They are so used to being able to take care of themselves and then when suddenly they cant' they will turn to anger or depression instead of turning to someone to ask for help. So do your best to respect their feelings but let them know at the same time you are more than willing to lend them a helping hand.
Everyone deserves dignity and seniors are no exception. If you treat them like a child instead of an adult this is not only a hurtful thing to do but it can also be a harmful thing to do. Unless you have walked in their shoes you have absolutely no idea what they are going through or what they are feeling about the situation that they now find themselves in. If you don't make a big deal out of something they can no longer do without help, they are going to feel a lot better about themselves.
Once you get to know the person better they are going to feel a lot more comfortable with you and they will be more willing to let you into their world by sharing their stories with you and letting you know what things gave them and still give them pleasure. If a person was an avid gardener for example this could be an immediate clue for you to go out and get them a nice fresh bouquet of flowers to brighten up their home. Little things like that you can pick up on to put a smile on their face.
Make sure that you don't make promises that you can't keep. It is important that you show your senior friend that you are true to your word. You need to show them that you have integrity and that you mean what you say. This is the quickest way for them to gain trust in you. Don't promise more than you can honestly deliver and let them know if there are things you aren't able to do, more than likely they will not only understand but will probably give you a few words of kindness and compassion on top of it.
Let your senior friend know that even if you can't always be there at their home that they can always give you a call and when you make that promise make sure that you answer the phone when you see it is your senior friend. Remember you might be the only thing in their lives that they have to look forward to.
Because your senior is home bound it's a good idea that you try to plan for an occasional outing together. Even if they are in a wheelchair you can take them outside for a stroll around the block or you can take them to a park and enjoy the change of scenery. Any little thing you can do to change up their scenery will be much appreciated by them - even if it is just sitting with them on the porch outside.

The hot Arab and cool spring hot summer.

Well, it has been labeled the Arab Spring, and we've seen protests in Morocco, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Bharain. In fact we also saw the starting of a few uprisings in China, but their media squashed that from worldview. It appears that the Arab Spring was springing up all over the place almost in a cluster munitions pattern. Many think that it is over now, but I highly doubt that and I believe we will not only have an Arab spring but also an Arab summer.
It's as if these areas of civil unrest have spread near and far. We've seen Muslims and Christians having it out in Egypt Nigeria, Uganda, and the Sudan. And yes the ongoing problems in Iraq. Many believe that Iran will have a re-occurrence of their near overthrow very soon, and as I read the tea leaves I would agree.
The protests and demands of Arab Governments are not over, it's just beginning actually. Let me explain what I mean. The rapid inflation in many Middle Eastern nations is very hard on the poor, and they need to buy food and the food prices have increased drastically. In many of these nations, they are basically oil Republics so to speak, and the government works to take care of the poor and there is a big separation of classes. Indeed, they don't have the benefits of a strong middle class as we do here in the USA.
Indeed, there was a very interesting article recently in the New York Times titled; "Promise of Arab Uprisings Is Threatened by Divisions," by Anthony Shadid and David Kirkpatrick, which stated; "From Egypt to Syria, tensions over religion and clans have threatened uprisings that once seemed to promise a new sense of national identity built on the idea of citizenship."
Top that up with massive job losses due to the disruptions causing local supply chain chaos, along with the prospect of increased food costs and global shortages as well. Wheat prices and scarcity is going to be a huge issue in Egypt and the rest of North Africa as well. Remember they say that the stability of a society and civilization is only three meals away. When people go without food for more than a day everything breaks down. So no one should be surprised this summer as more and more of these tensions and issues come to a head. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Our energy needs and wind power.

THE thought of wind power brings visions of giant turbines, high-altitude kites and graceful sailboats to mind. But the breeze has a more sinister side, full of turbulence that can wreak havoc with bridges and other structures.
Now Hyung-Jo Jung and Seung-Woo Lee at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in Daejeon, South Korea, plan to harness these destructive forces to generate energy. They have built a prototype that produces energy using a specific type of unstable airflow called wake galloping.
Wake galloping is a form of vigorous vibration that affects cylindrical parts of structures, such as the cables on suspension bridges, exposed to seemingly harmless airflow. When the wind passes a horizontal cylinder, eddy currents called wake vortices are created on the lee side. These induce a lifting force on a cylinder in the path of these eddies - but only if the two have the same diameter and the second cylinder is three to six diameters away from the first.
The leeward cylinder's weight counteracts the lift by pulling it back down again, resulting in the cylinder repeatedly moving up and down as the wind continues to blow. It is this movement that Jung and Lee hope to harness as energy.
To do this, they built a device containing two 85-centimetre long, 5-cm-diameter perspex rods spaced appropriately from each other. The rod on the leeward side was attached to a magnet, which was free to move within a copper coil (see diagram). As the cylinder moved, so did the magnet, generating a current in the coil.
The team found that even at wind speeds between 2.5 to 4.5 metres per second, when traditional wind turbines are inefficient, the system generated nearly half a watt of electrical power. They think this could be improved if the magnets and coils were optimised.
"One of the most promising applications for this is monitoring a structure's health using wireless sensors," Jung says. "The device could supply the monitors with power in a bridge or a high-rise building." And if enough of the generators were grouped together, he adds, they could power a bridge's street lighting.
The pair are now attempting to find what Jung calls the "most efficient size of the device" before they attempt to commercialise it.
Jung and Lee are not alone in harnessing unusual aspects of the wind. Humdinger Wind Energy of Honolulu, Hawaii, led by founder Shawn Frayne, is interested in a similar phenomenon called aeroelastic flutter, in which aerodynamic forces reinforce a structure's natural resonance, causing it to vibrate. The most famous example of this occurred in 1940, when the newly opened Tacoma Narrows bridge in Washington state began undulating in a light breeze, earning it the nickname Galloping Gertie. Within four months of completion, the bridge had shaken itself to shreds in a storm.
Frayne has created the Windbelt, which uses aeroelastic flutter to vibrate a plastic ribbon in light to moderate breezes. The vibration moves a magnet through a coil, which generates current in a similar fashion to Jung and Lee's device.
Both will likely find a market, says Matthew Wright of the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton in the UK. "There are situations where you need a small amount of power, but in a location that's too remote to connect to the grid, or to deliver fuel or batteries to. One of these devices might well find a niche there."

Child modeling our feeling and its worth

A crucial question that every single parent or guardian really need to ask themselves when contemplating a modeling career for their child is, "Is child modeling worth it?" Though on the surface, being able to showcase your pride and joy's face on the cover of a national magazine seems very appealing, there are a number of hidden depths to child modeling that ought to be thoroughly thought about before taking the leap. It is crucial to explore the possible precious time, hard work and sacrifice that is necessary in order for your child to model.
Do you believe your little boy or girl would be happy to model? Do you think it is something that he or she would enjoy doing? Whilst kids always need support in new endeavors, it is extremely important not to drive your child too far if they are very resilient to the thought of modeling. If they don't have any enthusiasm, it does not have to be the end of their prospective career. It may just be a case of waiting a few months, or a year or two, to see if they are more receptive to the idea at that time. On the other hand, if your kid is enthusiastic about the notion of child modeling, then stack on the motivation and offer them all the help you can.
Child modeling is a time-consuming affair. You do not need me to tell you that stability is extremely significant in a child's upbringing, and as such, modeling should be something that makes up a part of your child's life - it should not be the be all and end all. A whole lot of perseverance and motivation will be essential from both you and your child in order to succeed. The demands of child modeling will not suit all kids (even if they are originally very eager), and it is critical for you to recognize this.
What about you? Are you ready to take on the duties essential in order for your kid to be successful? Child modeling is no cakewalk. Like any other pastime or interest your child may come to be involved in, child modeling can eat up your free time and take over your life!
You may have the finest of intentions when starting out, but sacrifices are necessary to ensure that your kid has the best chance of doing well. You will need to stick to schedules required by third parties (i.e. photographers and studios). Casting calls can come at a day's or possibly an hour's notice. A lot of patience and work will be needed before your endeavors are rewarded. Child modeling is a competitive market.
Of course, child modeling can be incredibly rewarding. It can offer a lot to your child in terms of growth and abilities that will serve him or her very well in the long term. Your kid will have the opportunity to gain a great comprehension of concepts such as ambition, responsibility, team work and maturity. Furthermore, child modeling can open doors to many exciting opportunities.
If both you and your child are committed enough and are aware of the likely highs and lows that can come with child modeling, you should grasp the opportunity with both hands!

Birthday party and our ten beautiful and fancy dress.

If you're hosting a birthday party - either for yourself or on behalf of a friend or relative - and you're keen to do something a little different, you may want to give some thought to fancy dress. Not only is it great fun, but it's a great way to be creative and make sure your party lives long in the memory.
Here are 10 ideas for birthday party themes that could help create a fantastic event for you and all your friends.
1. 60s, 70s or 80s - The era-based birthday party theme is always popular, as it gives guests a broad base from which to find and choose a costume. The most common era-based birthday party themes tend to be 60s, 70s or 80s, especially for generations who grew up during one of those decades.
2. Open fancy dress - Of course, you may want to stop at fancy dress itself, so your guests can choose absolutely anything for their costume. If your birthday party is close to Halloween or New Year's Eve, when costumes tend to be in high demand, it could be ideal to open the net as wide as possible.
3. Hawaiian - From hula skirts and brightly coloured Hawaiian shirts to leis and pina coladas, this birthday party theme is great for creating a summery feel for your party. You may want to combine the party with a cocktail masterclass for your party guests.
4. Superheros - There's something within all of us that wishes we had super-human powers, so the opportunity to pretend to be our favourite superhero can be great fun. From Superman and Wonder Woman to Thor and The Incredible Hulk, there are loads of characters to choose from and lots of fun to be had.
5. Childhood heroes - Growing up, the role of the hero is something that really resonates with us. Whether it's someone from a cartoon, a sport or a film, dressing up as them for the night could be a great birthday party theme.
6. Based on a letter - It's always good to be creative when deciding on a fancy dress birthday party theme, as you want guests to give some proper thought to their costume. One way to do this is by asking everyone to choose their fancy dress based on a letter (Sesame Street style) or even your first initial - eg 'G'.
7. Gangster and molls - This is an old favourite, but always a winner. It's an easy one for your guests, which means there'll be little resistance to the idea, but everyone will look fantastic.
8. Movies - Films are a great source of inspiration for fancy dress costumes and you're bound to get a broad range of characters captured on the night. It's a fairly open birthday party theme, but it's one that should get everyone thinking.
9. Fairytale - Fairytales are enduringly popular and provide a broad array of costume ideas, from Alice in Wonderland to Robin Hood, there'll be lots of fun to be had when choosing what to wear.
10. Sporting icons - If your guests are largely all sports fans, asking them to choose an icon that means something to them could be a great option. Even those who aren't massively into sport may find it fun to do a little research and find an amusing costume.

Soul Train history and music awards

Soul Train began in 1971, as the first African American music variety show in the history of American television, with a format including a dance club ambiance playing the day's most popular urban music, complete with dancing men and women throughout the show, dressed to impress, along with hosts and performances from among major figures in Black entertainment. Though it initially aired in only the seven cities of Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and San Francisco, the show met with a successful start. Within seven months, the show had achieved its goal of airing in syndication in 25 major cities. The show had been the dream of Don Cornelius, the program's founder, producer, and host. His mission had been to establish a vehicle to offer recognition to Black artists who, in the 60's and 70's, did not receive much television air time on other programs that featured music.
The Soul Train Music Awards began in 1987 as a program for honoring each year's greatest achievements in Black music, and to generate more exposure and recognition for the overlooked artists and performers supported by Soul Train's mission. The first year, the award show's hosts included R&B legends Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and Dionne Warwick, with performances from Run DMC, Whitney Houston, and LL Cool J. Deriving its name from the show from which it sprang, the awards ceremony broadcast includes two hours of live performances by popular R&B, hip hop, and gospel artists. Winners are determined by a voting committee composed of active professionals within various fields of the music industry, including radio programming, music retail, music management, and notable recording artists (as determined by whether their records have reached approved music charts during the past year).
Since the very first year of the awards show, winners have not received traditional crystal awards, but trophies designed as African ceremonial masks, in representation of the heritage and culture from which Black music has derived. Janet Jackson has received more Soul Train Music Awards than any other artist in the history of the awards, with eight, and is tied with R. Kelly for the record for most nominations, with nineteen. Categories honor best albums and singles of the year separately within the genres of R&B/Soul, Gospel, Jazz, and Rap, along with Best New Artist and a category called The Michael Jackson Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video. A category called The Sprite Award for Best R&B/Soul or Rap Dance Cut was introduced in 2005 and retired in 2007, with its only three winners being for the videos Yeah by Usher, Lose Control by Missy Elliot, and Chicken Noodle Soup by Young B & Webstar. Special awards categories include the Quincy Jones Award for Career Achievement, Heritage Award for Career Achievement, Sammy Davis Jr. Award for Entertainer of the Year, Stevie Wonder Award for Outstanding Achievements in Song Writing, Artist of the Decade Award for Extraordinary Music Achievements, and the Humanitarian Award.
After the show did not air for two years, in 2007 and 2008, in the aftermath of Don Cornelius' sale of his ownership over the Soul Train company to MadVision Entertainment, the show's return in the year 2009 marked the first time that the awards show took place outside of Los Angeles, held in Atlanta's Georgia World Congress Center that year.

Ricky Rubio Barcelona's Season Ends

Yahoo!'s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news late Wednesday. Rubio and the Wolves had a May 31 deadline to reach an agreement under the current collective bargaining agreement; any deal signed after the deadline would have been subject to a new CBA being negotiated by the NBA and players union. That could have decreased Rubio's earnings potential once he made the jump, and was the apparent impetus for his move.
Zgoda reports that the Wolves continue to refuse comment and will wait to introduce Rubio to Minnesota fans and media until the end of June. Rubio's Barcelona is still in playoff contention in the ACB, the top Spanish league.
The next question is who will coach Rubio in Minneapolis. Kurt Rambis' job remains in question as Kahn concentrated on Rubio and NBA Draft preparations. Kahn has been deemed safe by franchise owner Glen Taylor -- and pulling Rubio over certainly doesn't hurt -- but Rambis remains standing on a trap door that could drop at any moment. If anything, landing such an important piece like Ricky may demand that a change is made; the mood surrounding the Wolves in Rambis' tenure has seemed exceedingly awful.
